About the Role

The Manager, Community and Government Affairs serves as the regional lead for community relations and local primary government engagement for AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) across local communities in Nevada. Reporting directly to the Director, Community Relations & Government Affairs, this role develops and executes regional social performance, non-Tribal stakeholder engagement, and local government relations strategies across Southern Nevada, with a primary focus on Beatty, Amargosa Valley, and Nye County.

As a key external affairs leader, the Manager establishes strategic community priorities, maintains first-hand oversight of site activities affecting local communities, directs AGA’s Beatty Community Relations Center, and ensures regional engagement and outreach are aligned with corporate communications and broader business objectives. The Manager leads a team of two Community Affairs Specialists and helps ensure AGA maintains credible, consistent, and constructive relationships with the communities in which it operates.

Key Responsibilities

Cross-Functional Coordination & Social Risk Integration

  • Serve as the central coordination point for company activities affecting local communities, partnering with Operations, Environmental, Exploration, Land, Permitting, HR, and Procurement to reduce stakeholder and reputational risk.
  • Lead ongoing social risk assessments and socioeconomic impact monitoring; ensure stakeholder feedback and social considerations inform project design, operational planning, and site risk registers.

Engagement Strategy & Governance

  • Design, implement, and evaluate multi-year community engagement strategies aligned with ICMM, IFC Performance Standards, and AGA policies.
  • Coordinate closely with Tribal Relations to ensure seamless cross-functional alignment while maintaining clear accountability for non-Tribal stakeholder engagement.

Government Partnerships & Policy Alignment

  • Build and maintain trusted relationships across local, county, and state leadership, including Town Advisory Boards (TABs), Town Offices, County Commissioners, County Managers, and regional state agencies.
  • Represent AGA at public hearings, County Commission meetings, Town Advisory Board meetings, and regional governance forums as the primary face of Nevada Projects.
  • Monitor regional policy, zoning, and municipal developments, providing strategic intelligence directly to the Director, Community Relations & Government Affairs.

Community Communications & Center Oversight

  • Develop and implement proactive communication and outreach strategies to ensure timely, clear, and consistent information sharing with local stakeholders.
  • Translate project and operational information into accessible community-facing messages and materials, coordinating with corporate communications to ensure messaging alignment.
  • Direct overall strategy, budget, and programming for the Beatty Community Relations Center, ensuring it serves as an active hub for public information, STEM education, and community dialogue.

People Leadership & Stakeholder Management

  • Supervise, mentor, and guide two (2) Community Affairs Specialists, establishing goals, delegating responsibilities, and overseeing team performance.
  • Maintain accountability for consistent and effective use of CIMS, ensuring stakeholder interactions, commitments, and community relations data are accurately and timely documented.
  • Oversee the site Community Grievance Mechanism and serve as the primary escalation point for complex or high-risk disputes to ensure fair, transparent resolution.

Social Investment Strategy

  • Direct regional social investment activities, including the local scholarship program, educational grants, community sponsorships, and AGA’s relationship with and support for the Beatty Foundation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Political Science, Public Administration, Social Sciences, or related field required.
  • Advanced degree or professional certification in stakeholder engagement (IAP2), corporate social responsibility, or public administration preferred.
  • Minimum 5 to 7+ years of progressive experience in community relations, government affairs, social performance, or external affairs within mining, natural resources, infrastructure, or energy.
  • Minimum 2+ years of formal supervisory or team leadership experience.
  • Proven track record managing government relations across Town, County, and State levels, as well as coordinating cross-functional technical teams to manage community impacts.
  • Deep familiarity with Southern Nevada civic governance, Nye County commission structures, Town Advisory Boards, and rural community dynamics.
  • Demonstrated experience developing community-facing messaging, outreach strategies, and regular stakeholder communications while coordinating effectively with corporate communications.
  • Demonstrated capability managing stakeholder databases (e.g., CIMS) and site-level Community Grievance Mec
