About Prominent Hill

• Prominent Hill is a well-established copper-gold operation within BHP’s Minerals Australia portfolio, with a strong future and ongoing investment.
• Located 650km north-west of Adelaide, the site operates across underground and surface mining.
• A major shaft project is supporting underground expansion and extending mine life to at least 2040, creating long-term opportunities across the operation.
• It’s a technically complex site where you can build your skills, take on new challenges, and be part of a team where safety and looking out for each other matters.
• We currently have a vacancy for a Superintendent Safety & Hygiene , reporting to the Manager Health, Safety and Security .

The Challenge Ahead

This is an opportunity to lead a highly capable team responsible for safety and occupational hygiene at one of Australia’s leading underground mining operations.

As Superintendent Safety & Hygiene , you will provide strategic leadership, technical expertise and governance to strengthen risk management, improve safety performance and support operational excellence across Prominent Hill. Working closely with operational leaders and frontline teams, you will influence meaningful outcomes that support workforce wellbeing while enabling safe and productive operations.

You will play a key role in shaping and delivering integrated safety and occupational hygiene strategies aligned to site priorities and Copper SA objectives. Through collaboration, stakeholder engagement and a strong customer focus, you will help embed practical solutions that improve risk management, strengthen capability and drive continuous improvement.

Success in this role will come from your ability to build trusted relationships, develop a high-performing team and use risk insights, performance trends and operational feedback to inform decision-making. You will champion a proactive approach to health and safety, support the implementation of the Copper SA Integrated Management System (IMS), and foster an environment where people feel empowered to speak up, learn, improve and contribute every day.

• What You'll Bring to the Role
• You are an experienced leader who is passionate about creating safe and healthy workplaces and partnering with operations to achieve sustainable outcomes.

• Demonstrated leadership experience in mining, resources, heavy industry or another complex operational environment.
• Strong expertise in safety, occupational hygiene, health risk management or a related discipline.
• A proven ability to lead, coach and develop high-performing teams.
• Well-developed stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships across operational and leadership groups.
• Strong commercial and operational awareness, with the ability to translate business priorities into practical outcomes.
• Analytical and problem-solving capability, using data and insights to support evidence-based decision-making.
• A proactive approach to continuous improvement, customer service and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will

• Lead the development and delivery of site safety and occupational hygiene strategies aligned with Prominent Hill and Copper SA priorities.
• Provide leadership, governance and technical expertise to improve health and safety performance across the operation.
• Lead, develop and support a team of professionals while fostering a culture of trust, accountability and high performance.
• Partner with operational stakeholders to identify improvement opportunities and implement practical solutions to complex challenges.
• Strengthen risk management practices and support risk-informed decision-making across the business.
• Govern occupational hygiene monitoring programs to verify control effectiveness, support workforce health and drive continuous improvement.
• Analyse performance trends, operational data and risk information to support strategic planning and operational decision-making.
• Collaborate with Asset, regional and global teams to share learnings, build capability and improve service delivery.
• Champion the implementation of the Copper SA Integrated Management System (IMS) and continuous improvement processes.
