Accelerate Your Career

Fortescue Zero’s reputation across Formula E for performance, technology and design was forged within the world's most challenging circuits and championships. Our partners all work at the cutting-edge of technology and share an understanding that progress, courage and innovation enable us to achieve our on-track goals.

We operate a 12-month (September 2027 – August 2028) student placement programme within our Motorsport IT team. This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside experienced IT and engineering professionals, gaining hands-on experience of the technology that supports our factory and test team operations. You will be encouraged to ask questions, take ownership of practical tasks and develop your skills throughout the year. Many of our industrial placement students have gone on to secure graduate roles after completing their degree.

To be eligible for this industrial placement, you should be working towards a degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cyber Security, Network Engineering or a related subject, with an interest in practical systems and infrastructure support.

What you will do

  • During the placement you will take on responsibilities such as:
  • Working as an integral part of the IT team and building effective relationships with factory, engineering and test team users.
  • Providing first- and second-line support for hardware, software, user accounts and connectivity issues.
  • Preparing, deploying and maintaining laptops, workstations, mobile devices and peripherals used across factory and test operations.
  • Supporting core IT infrastructure, including networks, Wi-Fi, servers, storage, virtualisation and cloud services.
  • Helping to set up and support IT systems for vehicle tests, rig sessions and other time-critical engineering activities.
  • Monitoring systems, investigating incidents, escalating where appropriate and documenting resolutions.
  • Assisting with joiners, movers and leavers, access permissions, software deployment, asset records and licence management.
  • Supporting patching, backups, endpoint protection, cyber security controls and business continuity activities.
  • Automating routine tasks and improving support processes through scripting, standardisation and appropriate tooling.
  • Creating and maintaining technical documentation, setup guides and knowledge-base articles.
  • Working with colleagues and suppliers to deliver upgrades, installations and infrastructure changes with minimal disruption.

Our goal is to provide reliable, secure and well-supported technology that enables our factory and test teams to operate effectively in demanding, time-critical environments, allowing and enabling every opportunity to gain advantage on track.

When applying for an industrial placement opportunity, students are expected to submit a covering letter and Curriculum Vitae containing the following information:

  • Your current career aims and how you plan to achieve them.
  • Subjects that you are currently taking and plan to take.
  • Relevant leisure pursuits and activities.
  • Why work experience would be beneficial to you.

Next Steps

Those students that are shortlisted will be invited to attend an assessment. It is expected that the student takes sole responsibility for making suitable travel and accommodation arrangements.
